Does anyone else have feelings on the ending for “To Break a Thief?”

I can’t really say that I’m particularly surprised, especially since Sleepy was working on this before their hiatus, and probably already had the ending decided by that point. However, I have to say I am a little disappointed. I just feel like Evie and Violet getting off without a problem and coming away with an unambiguous victory is getting a bit old at this point.

I’m sure that this is just a midpoint of the story, like Empire Strikes Back, where it leaves our “hero” in a precarious spot, but this was a feeling I had with alot of Sleepy’s pre-hiatus serialized work. I know that was part of the reason they took time off, and I hope that it was restful and helped them figure out their mental, but I’m hoping that later entries in their series will be a bit less generous to our dastardly duo. I want some drama with my smut!

But obviously, story gripes aside, the art is still great and the set pieces are absolutely delightful. Fun finale to what ended up being something of a transitional point for the story. Can’t wait to see whats next!

  1. Feels like punching down tbh. The only really wc character who is wiley and resourceful (though just as morally corrupt as the others) is brought down and tortured by those with money and power. Just feels a bit too much like the real world at the moment.

  2. I really enjoyed the mental domination side of it. Apologising for being rough, saying she isn’t the first she’s broken, multiple orgasms… I’ll admit I really enjoyed it.

I forsee Trixie breaking away at some point thanks to Nancy.

Eve and Violet being sent to some reclusive place by her Aunt Camilla

  3. i get where his coming from, there is only so much he can do after trixie gets nabbed, but then nancy is alone now and theres only so much he can do, when it comes to digging down before he gets stuck with no solution to how to make it less dark. but, regardless, no matter what he does, as long as theres the theme of femdom, drugs, bdsm and feet. im sure i and many others will still love his comics, theres no other in my book that competes

  4. I think part of the problem is just the format.

Evie and Violet always get away with stuff, because Sleepy needs them to. If they ever got caught, they would be sent away for the rest of their lives, and he wouldn’t be able to make any more stories about them.

While I like these stories, let’s be frank – they’re wank material. Plot is not the main concern, eroticism is.

I suspect at some point Sleepy is just going to get tired of them and move onto other characters, but until then, I doubt they’ll get any real comeuppance. And I don’t see that happening for a while, since he doesn’t seem to have much interest in stuff with other characters, at least not long term.

  5. Honestly? I enjoyed how dark it was getting. And since I actually see Trixie being as much (if not more!) of a villain as Evie and Violet — I was very happy to see her taken down (which is why my favorite all time Sleepy project is “Subliminal”).

  6. I think SG is just too afraid to retire the characters. He’s going to have to make a choice between having them do dastardly things and get away with them (which is what initially drew people to the character but is already tired) or moving on to a new rotating villainess cast.

Or just retool the content of his stories to be one and done episodic plots with lighter story.
